Both the Grizzlies and the Steelheads came out strong defensively, keeping the scoring to the bare minimum. At the end of the 1st frame, neither team had hit the scoreboard. The 2nd period followed the same trend, until the last two minutes when the Steelheads hit the scoreboard, making it 1-0 going into the 3rd.
Utah started the final period off with a power play, but was unable to capitalize on the one-man advantage. Although the effort was there, the Grizzlies weren't able to light the lamp and push this game past regulation.
From the official post game:
Brett Parnham was hauled down on a borderline breakaway with eight seconds left in the second, but the Grizzlies were awarded a two-minute power-play instead of a potential game-tying penalty-shot from the Utah rookie who is three-for-five in shootouts this year.
Idaho goaltender Richard Bachman stopped all 24 shots he saw from Utah for his second career shutout. [utahgrizzlies.com]

Scoring Summary:
IDH - J. Swanson (13), 18:13 2nd period (Derlago, McCutcheon); Steelheads 1, Grizzlies 0
What Worked Well: Penalty Kill.
Utah went 3/3 on the penalty kill, including killing a short 5-on-3. The boys controlled the puck during the shorthanded situations, then didn't allow any penalties past the 1st frame.
What Could Have Worked Better: Power Play
The power play didn't look too bad, but the Grizzlies didn't convert on any of their 5 chances. However, two of their big scorers are out: Kinasewich in the AHL and Sixsmith who is still feeling ill.
Who Made the Difference: Brett Parnham
While we feel a little guilty not selecting a blueliner for such a defensively played game or Mitch O'Keefe for the amazing saves, we feel if anyone was going to make things happen offensively, it was Brett Parnham. Parnham drew a power play on a semi break away where he had a good chance. And on top of the offensive work, he was great on defense.
Stars of the Game:
1. IDH - R. Bachman
2. IDH - J. Swanson
3. UTA - M. O'Keefe
Additional Notes:
> The Grizzlies 5 game unbeaten streak comes to an end.
> Mitch O'Keefe stopped 31 out of 32 shots.
