The numbers for this game looked good: 39 SOG compared to Idaho's 15, 5 for 6 on the penalty kill with the one goal allowed a 5-on-3, and only 2 goals allowed with an additional empty netter.
We definitely don't want to undermine the strengths of Idaho in this loss. The Steelhead's goalie was on fire, and Mouillierat almost had a Gordie Howe, but he received a minor for roughing instead of a major for fighting. Idaho did a great job setting up on that 5-on-3, and they played with desperation.
We can't even think of something the Grizzlies could have done better, per se. Utah obviously did a good job of controlling the puck; the majority of the 3rd period was spent in Idaho's zone. They just seemed to have a bit less intensity than Idaho until the last 3 minutes of play.
Loved the Crowder-Parnham-Ruegsegger line, whichever order they're supposed to go in. Nice to see Gauvreau picking up an assist. And again, good job to Parnham picking up a nice 7 SOG, which Matt Clarke matched.
And for the penalties? Well, we had a nice time trying to explain hockey math to our fellow attendees.
