Tom May in, Michael Gergen out, and Lawson in the NHL.

So it's old news that Tom May has rejoined the Grizzlies. So who's out?

Unfortunately, we learned Sunday that Michael Gergen has been released from his contract with Utah. We were sorry to hear that, as we really enjoyed watching Gergen during the Ontario matches a few weeks ago. He was definitely running at top speed during that series, and also picked up a goal and an assist in this last match up against Vegas. But when it comes down to it, May just looks better on paper than Gergen. Hopefully we'll see him land elsewhere in the ECHL soon because we like the guy and his style of play. Best of luck, Michael!

Former Grizzlies goaltender Nathan Lawson made his debut in the NHL Saturday with the Islanders. We were excited to see this happen as we loved to watch him play here in Utah. Congrats, Laws!

Post Game: Ontario 3, Grizzlies 2 (OT)

Grizzlies lose, but this time in OT. Improvement.

Utah had a weak 1st period. The entire 2nd period was a brawl (seriously, 19 penalties in the middle frame). And the last 10 minutes of play is how we would have liked to see the Grizzlies playing the whole game. However, the boys did gain one point, and 1 point from 6 over the weekend is . . . still pretty damn bad. But we're going to take the comeback late in the 3rd as a sign that Utah's play at home is changing (please, please, please). Either way, the crowd was certainly into this game as were we.

One of the first things we noticed was the presence of Emmerson in a suit. During Grizzlies Live, Assistant Coach Mendelson had commented on the positive influence of Riley on the bench even if he wasn't playing shifts, so we were interested to see the effect #59 could bring to the game from the bench.

Michael Gergen looked pretty tough tonight. He fought for the puck during line changes and made an extra effort to take the puck coast to coast to control it Ontario's zone. We were excited when Denny mentioned this in his postgame interview with Colley as well. We also want to thank the blueliners for scoring tonight.

0 for 4 on the power play?

Not much else to say about this one. Grizzlies head back to California next weekend, so we expect to see some wins.

Post Game: Wranglers 4, Grizzlies 3 (SO)

The Grizzlies may have lost this one, but today - today we have love for the Crowder boys.

Yesterday, Paul piled on the goals and today younger brother Tim took his turn. When these boys are on, they're on fire! It's really hard to deny the numbers. Paul picked up 4 points over the weekend with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Tim picked up the identical stats. (We'd make a Sedins joke here, but it might be a little too early in the season.) And of course, we would be remiss if we didn't mention Michael Gergen's contribution to both of Tim's goals. Beauty.

Riley Armstrong joined the Grizzlies and picked up an assist on a power play goal by Jackman. As a bonus, Riley drew the penalty resulting in the man advantage. And if we're going to be honest here at the UGB, we've kind of been Riley Armstrong fans for a while, so it just made our day to see him land in Utah.

And we have to highlight the awesome Brock Wilson fight, which we're not even certain how it started as it was behind the play. One of the Vegas players was in Armstrong's face, and the next thing we saw was Brock taking care of business. But of course, for the B2 watchers, our favorite part was Wilson in the penalty box with a huge grin on his face. Good times.

Nick Tuzzolino took on the intermission interview and mentioned one reason for coming here was issues with the Wheeling Nailers. Well . . . we have heard that Death Is Better Than Wheeling (Found this on Bourne's Blog last season and we're still laughing at it).

Overall, the Grizzlies picked up 3 of 4 possible points in Vegas, so we consider it a good weekend.

*All Vegas, so we deem the Crowder boys our stars.
