Grizzlies vs Wranglers Post Game: 10.16.09

Though we didn't make it down to Vegas for the opener (SAD!), we were listening to Yo's broadcast online. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures of a broadcast. You can read the Grizzlies official game summary at their site, and the ECHL stats are up as well. What a way to open the season! Our post game is below.

FIRST PERIOD:

Sounds like we came out a little shaky in the first. Clarke gets a hooking minor 6 and a half into the first, and Vegas scores on the power play.

30 seconds later, Vegas scores again.

What the . . . ?
We start to wonder if we actually have a team on the ice.

Colley calls a time out to work his magic.

Guthrie scores on the power play thanks to October being Free Candy month.
Oh, wait. This is only li'l Orpik . . . And it was a hooking penalty, not Free Candy . . .

But Guthrie pulls through and gets the Grizzlies' first goal. Points to Vlady and Snatch on the assists.

Grizz get another power play opportunity, but can't capitalize.

End of first. 2-1, Vegas.

First Intermission: Haggin goes one-on-one with Stoflet. Stoflet likes hip-hop, the Star Trek movie, and NHL 10. Awesome. You can listen to that interview at the Grizzlies site.

SECOND PERIOD:

Vegas gets another goal early in, 3-1.
We cry a little. Consoling phone calls are made.
Yo starts to sound irritated.

Watt picks a fight with Hagel. The universe shifts almost imperceptibly . . .

Enter Kinasewich. Snatch knocks one in to make it a one-goal game. Points go to Perry and Bartley for the assists.

Enter May. Originally, this was called as unassisted, but it looks like Sixsmith picks up a point on it.

Tied, 3-3.

A bunch of other roughing penalties go down in the end of the second, but Grizzlies stay on top.

End of second. 3-3.

Second Intermission: Yo and Kotsy do a little impromptu commentary on the game. It rocks the kasbah. We decide that sidelined players should do color commentary for Yo henceforth.

THIRD PERIOD:

Kinasewich hits the ice so on fire that we were afraid it would melt.
Two minutes in Snatch knocks one in on a power play. Vlady picks up a point for the assist.
4-3, Grizzlies

Friesen takes a penalty and the boys kill it like Jason.

Some clown named Schwarz picks up a couple of penalties, one for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

Grizzlies press the advantage and Kinasewich pops off a third goal for a hat trick on the power play.
Seriously, can this get any better?

Points to Hunter and Perry on the assists.
Grizzlies work to hold the lead.

Pavli decides to give some Free Candy to li'l Orpik. It is October after all. Roughing penalties.
Other penalties.

May gets the Grizzlies' 6th goal of the night, handing an assist to Snatch for a 5 point game.
The mob gets the refs to call Too Many Men on the ice. Pavli serves it.
Goal and assist removed. Boo.

Vegas can't make a comeback. Pwned on their opening night.

Game.
5-3, Grizzlies.

Snatch & Vlady are the no. 1 & 2 stars of the game.

NOTES:

Yo can't believe that no one predicted Snatch as the #1 star of the game.
Incredulous.
We can't believe the Grizz didn't use the #1 star's pic for the post game . . .

BIG improvement from the preseason.

If anyone has pics of themselves at the game, send 'em to us! We'll post ya and give you creds. :)

I totally predicted Kinasewich as #1 star. Of course, I did it as I was driving home listening to pre-game on the radio, so I don't think anyone heard me.

Nice job on the write up.
